There are guides around to completely remove FSX. When doing a fresh install are you clearing out all of the FSX files on the PC? I believe it leaves a few settings files in the documents folder etc. It's hard to imagine that fresh installs of FSX would corrupt your aircraft cfg files and mess the parameters of the flight model but then again fresh installs are replicating the same problems. Its workings are quite complicated but explained very simply it works by sensing the aircrafts yawing. Take a look in there if not done already. The Heading Indicator is a gyroscopic instrument.
